Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degrees (EMJMDs) are the scholarship people mean when they say “I want to study in three countries in two years.” Instead of one university running the program, a consortium of at least three universities in at least two different European countries jointly delivers it — so your degree, and often your address, changes each semester.

Who it’s for

• Anyone holding a bachelor’s degree, or finishing one before the program starts
• Applicants from any country in the world — EMJMDs are explicitly open to non-EU nationals, and scholarships are awarded to “best-ranked applicants worldwide,” not by country quota
• Students comfortable with moving between two or three countries during the program, since that mobility is built into the degree, not optional

There’s no single EMJMD — there are hundreds of individually named joint programs (in fields from data science to human rights), each with its own consortium, so “apply to Erasmus Mundus” really means picking a specific joint program first.

What it covers

• A living allowance for the full duration of the program
• Travel and installation costs to help you relocate between countries
• Visa-related costs
• Tuition fee coverage — confirm this per program, since coverage is set by each consortium and can differ

Both full scholarships (covering nearly everything) and partial scholarships exist, awarded on a mix of merit and, for some programs, financial need.

How to apply

1. Browse the catalogue of joint master programs on the official Erasmus+ site and shortlist ones matching your field.
2. Read that specific consortium’s admission page — requirements, required documents, and the scholarship application process are set individually by each program, not centrally.
3. Apply directly through the consortium’s own application portal (not a single unified Erasmus Mundus portal).
4. Indicate scholarship interest where the program’s form asks for it — most programs let you apply for admission and funding together.

Deadlines to watch

Most programs open applications between October and January for an intake the following autumn, but each consortium sets its own exact date. Check your shortlisted program’s page directly, and don’t assume two programs in the same field share a deadline — they usually don’t.
